A dhow dinner cruise can be an easy skyline evening, but departure points, routes, boat layouts and inclusions vary — so the details matter more than the generic “dhow cruise” label.
A dhow is the traditional wooden sailing-vessel form associated with Gulf trade and fishing. Tourist dhows are modern motorised vessels styled around that heritage, usually with an enclosed lower deck and an open or partly open upper deck. In Abu Dhabi they are used for short sightseeing trips, dinner cruises and private charters.
The appeal is simple: you get a slower view of the city from the water without committing to a full yacht charter. It works particularly well at sunset or after dark, when the Corniche skyline becomes the main attraction.
Do not book on the assumption that every cruise leaves from the same marina. Current Abu Dhabi tourism listings include traditional dhow dinner sailings from Mina Zayed, with routes taking in the Corniche and city skyline. Other boat products may use different boarding points around the waterfront or Yas area.
Your booking confirmation should give an exact pier, reporting time and contact number. Mina Zayed is a working port district, not one single obvious tourist terminal, so "Mina Zayed" on its own is not enough information for a taxi driver or a last-minute arrival.
Many current dinner cruises are around one-and-a-half to two hours on the water, though private or premium products can run differently. Allow extra time before departure for the taxi ride, finding the correct boarding point and check-in. Boats usually cannot wait long for late passengers once harbour movements are scheduled.

Smart casual is a safe choice, but there is no need to treat a normal dinner dhow like a formal gala. Wear something comfortable for boarding and bring a light layer in the cooler season if you plan to sit on the upper deck. Avoid loose hats or anything that becomes annoying in wind.
If you mainly want a quick water-level view of the skyline, a full dinner cruise may be more than you need. These can be a better fit for families with limited time or travellers who prefer to choose dinner separately.
A dhow cruise is best for travellers who want an unhurried evening rather than a high-energy attraction. The boat itself is part of the atmosphere, but the strongest reason to go is the different perspective on the Corniche skyline. Choose a current, clearly documented operator and judge the booking by its route, boarding point and inclusions — not by the most dramatic stock photos.
