The final piece of Saadiyat Island's original Cultural District plan is on track to open before the end of 2026, capping nearly two decades of development.
The Saadiyat Cultural District was first announced in 2006 with a five-museum plan, later narrowed to three anchor institutions: the Louvre Abu Dhabi, the Zayed National Museum and the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi. The Louvre opened in 2017; the Guggenheim has taken considerably longer, with a construction timeline stretching across nearly two decades since the project was first announced.
Once open, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi is expected to be the largest museum in the global Guggenheim network, with a distinctive building of large conical structures arranged around a central atrium — a design intended to be a landmark in its own right, in the tradition of the original Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Guggenheim in New York.
Once open, it will complete the core of Saadiyat's Cultural District alongside the Louvre Abu Dhabi, Zayed National Museum, Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi and teamLab Phenomena — meaning a single Saadiyat Island trip will be able to cover an unusually dense cluster of major museums within a short drive of each other.
