Professional sumo is coming to Abu Dhabi for a one-night event at Space42 Arena on Saturday 26 September 2026. Nine elite wrestlers will contest 36 bouts, with Japanese sumo ceremony, taiko drumming and a live ticket situation that travellers should re-check before making plans.
Abu Dhabi is getting a genuinely unusual sporting first. All-Star Sumo is bringing an international professional sumo exhibition to the UAE for the first time, with wrestlers from Japan, Mongolia and Egypt competing at Space42 Arena.
For travellers, the event is simple to understand but worth planning carefully: it is a one-night show, the competition itself starts at 7pm, and current ticket listings are not completely consistent. If this is a must-do part of your trip, confirm availability on the live seller page before arranging transport or changing other plans.
The competition takes place on Saturday 26 September 2026 at Space42 Arena in Al Raha Beach. The organiser’s current event release and Platinumlist both give 6pm doors and a 7pm competition start. Experience Abu Dhabi lists the broader event window as 5pm–11pm.
That difference is not necessarily a contradiction: a destination calendar can show the venue’s overall event window while the ticket page gives the public door and show times. For practical planning, treat 6pm as the published doors time and 7pm as the competition start unless the organiser updates it.
Ticket information is moving. Experience Abu Dhabi currently advertises entry starting from AED 90, but the dedicated Platinumlist event page checked on 12 September displays Sold out and points visitors toward fan-to-fan ticket availability. At the same time, some Platinumlist category and venue listings still show “a few tickets left” at higher displayed prices.

The event brings together nine elite wrestlers for 36 bouts. The organiser describes it as a round-robin competition, with the wrestler holding the best record at the end of the evening becoming the inaugural All-Star Sumo champion in Abu Dhabi.
That format should make the night easy to follow even if you have never watched sumo. Individual bouts can be extremely short: one loss of balance, step outside the ring or decisive push can end a contest in seconds. The interest comes from seeing the same field repeatedly tested rather than waiting for one long headline fight.
Japan’s Ichi, an Emperor’s Cup winner and former sekiwake, is one of the headline names. Hiroki, listed by the organiser at around 250kg, is another major draw. The field also includes experienced international competitors from Mongolia and Egypt.
The organiser says Ichi, Hiroki, Mendee and Zorig have all won previous All-Star Sumo tournaments. Abu Dhabi Media Office also highlights Mongolia’s Mendee, a junior world and international sumo champion, and Egypt’s Ramy El-Gazar, a 10-time national champion. Collectively, the nine-wrestler field is promoted as bringing decades of professional and international experience.
This is being presented as a sporting event with traditional elements rather than a stripped-down exhibition. Official descriptions include wrestler introductions, a formal ring-entering element and pre-bout rituals alongside the competition.
Space42 Arena and the organiser also list Japanese taiko drumming, themed photo experiences, food and beverage outlets and official merchandise. VIP Meet and Greet ticket holders are advertised as receiving post-event access to meet and take photos with the athletes, subject to the ticket conditions attached to that category.
Space42 Arena is in Al Raha Beach, south-east of central Abu Dhabi. The venue’s own visitor guide estimates roughly 20 minutes by car from central Abu Dhabi, around 10 minutes from Zayed International Airport and about 60 minutes from Dubai in normal conditions.
The arena says public visitor parking is available on site. For a Saturday evening event, allow extra margin for weekend traffic, parking and entry checks rather than timing your arrival for the 7pm start. A taxi or ride-hail is the simplest option if you do not want to deal with parking after the show.
If you have a confirmed ticket, aim to be in the Al Raha area before doors open rather than racing across the city at 6:45pm. The published 6pm doors give you time to enter, find your seat, look around and catch the ceremonial build-up before the 7pm competition.
If you do not have a ticket, check the dedicated event page before making a special journey. Do not rely on an old price tile, a broad events calendar or a screenshot saying “few tickets left”. Inventory can change faster than tourism listings update, especially for a one-night event.
For visitors staying near the airport or Yas Island, the Al Raha location is comparatively convenient. From the Corniche, Saadiyat or Al Maryah, allow more travel time and keep the return trip simple rather than trying to bolt another fixed-time evening attraction onto the same night.
